Dining Room

We have made some progress throughout the house but still have many projects and a lot of furnishing to do. I will post pics as things and rooms progress. I have the habit of working on one room, then switching to another without fully completing anything, hence the nursery. I think I picked this up from Jim. But we did finally get some dining room furniture, and while it needs some serious accessorizing, this is how it looks to date:

we sold our old table and chairs on craigslist, which were much too small for the area, got a new dining set and switched out the light fixture. Tim also painted the built in buffet white, which still needs some tweaking and a little hardware. It's a "WIP" but it looks much better than it did before!!

3 Weeks

I have just under 3 weeks to go until the due date. As long as I make it past Adella's birthday next week everything will be fine. Tim has to work on her actual birthday so we're having a few of our friends and their kids (who are Della's favs) over for a little BBQ and some cake the day before.

Everyone always asks if I am "ready" for the baby to come. And while I am DONE being pregnant, I am a little nervous for what is to come, caring for an infant and Adella. I'm having a little anxiety about being away from Adella while in the hospital, as I haven't spent more than a few hours away from her and miss her so much when I do get away for a little "me time". We still have some random baby gear items to get but this boy has more clothes than Adella and I put together! Between the hand me downs and all the gifts from friends and family he is set for a looonng time! His nursery isn't complete yet, but below is a pic of what we have started. It's funny how things change with the second kid, Adella's room was complete by the time I was 30 weeks. He will be in our room in a co-sleeper for a while, so we're not in a huge rush to have it done.

what blog post would be complete without a pic of the little fire captain...

Summertime

...and nakiness! It has been hot here.... and unusually humid. Gross. But the weather has started to get back to normal, and luckily we are close enough to the ocean to always have a steady breeze. I was having some contractions earlier on in the week and the doctor told me to take it easy, which means no more yard work. I think it was mostly due to dehydration, so I have been trying to force water and rest as much as possible. 4 more weeks!! Here are some pics of Della in her "cool", I guess that word is used a little too often around the house. And yes, she got to eat dinner while splashing around in her cool.

5 weeks to go!

These last few weeks have flown by and I can't believe we're on the final countdown. Adella came a week early, so it could be more like 4 more weeks.... We still have a lot to do before he gets here, including picking a name. Whattyagonado.

I caught someone poking through our garden, and she managed to spot a few ripe tomatoes...

July 4th

One of Tim's friends at work had a BBQ at their house for the 4th. They have a beautiful backyard with a huuuge pool that Adella had fun splashing around in. This picture was taken with a cell phone so it's not the best quality. I forgot my camera but a lot of other people got pictures of the kids with their sparklers, so hopefully we'll get some better ones soon.

Our Garden

One of the many projects we have been trying to tackle is building a small patio garden. I started sowing seeds within about a week of moving in, and they went nuts, germinating within a few days! So Tim built a raised bed planter, and we got some old whiskey barrels and pots to plant everything in. We had no idea how much time and effort goes into even the smallest of gardens. I did a lot of research on which vegetables grow best in our climate (luckily that's pretty much everything) and how to plant accordingly, north to south, vegetable pairings, etc. There were so many options of what to plant, but we ended up growing vegetables that would allow for us to have fresh salads (and more) each week. Here's what we have growing:

Romaine, bronze leaf, loose leaf lettuce. Green onions, chives, white cooking onions. Spinach, zucchini, cucumbers, hmmmm oh yes, bell peppers and chili's. Heirloom, beefsteak and cherry tomatoes. I think that's about it. In addition to the mandarin oranges, lemons, and another type of orange tree that were already here when we moved in.

It's been a lot of work and I find myself to be a slave to the garden every day. I also have more seeds germinating so I am constantly hovering over them to make sure they grow well. We are working towards a drip system, and it's installed, just have a few kinks to work out. So I have been watering by hand everyday.............. Here are a few picks!
